This year’s award winner for the Best Remodeled Home in the $500K - $750K category:

  Before Photo
This home began as a  28’ X 22’ summer house built on piers  and  was previously converted to a year round residence with the addition of a 616 SF addition built on a full block foundation, bringing the total finished space to 1,232 +/- SF prior to our renovation project. We demolished the structure, leaving only the block foundation under the previous addition and the floor joists above it.

After Photo
The new home is two stories, built with 2X6 studs and conventional solid sawn floor joists. Because of the open floor plan, steel support posts and beams were required to support the 2nd floor and roof structure. The insulation is a combination of closed cell foam and  fiberglass batt insulation providing R-28 in the walls and R-40 in the rafter bays all the way up to the roof ridge. The Master bedroom suite includes a cantilevered  balcony overlooking  the side yard and the private golf course. Under the balcony deck boards is a drainage system to keep the patio beneath dry.

Fireplace & Ceiling
The fireplace is a true Rumford wood burner with a cast clay Rumford smoke chamber and a stone chimney. Heat, domestic hot water and air conditioning  is supplied by geothermal system with electric backup.

The interior features stained V-Joint pine ceilings, combination of wrought iron and red oak stair & balcony railings, stained six panel pine doors and clear pine square edge casing & base moldings. All flooring is 3-1/4” #1 common Red Oak.

The master bathroom includes electric tile floor warming system, heated towel rack, dual window seats, jetted tub and frameless shower enclosure.

The Cherry kitchen  includes granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and tile backsplash.

The guest bath includes  an electric tile floor warming  system,  cherry cabinets and a custom framed mirror.

Consistent with the trend toward quality, durability and lower life cycle cost, the owners chose upgraded vinyl sidewall shakes for their exterior cladding.  Exterior trim and deck boards are both Azek plastic boards. The house is small but loaded with practical comfortable details.

Owner’s Comments
We met several builders who were ready to go, but after spending time with Peter Schneider, we knew we found the builder for us.  There was a thoroughness and a feeling of competence that surpassed any of the other builders we spoke with.

We all worked together, developing the plans, exchanging ideas and as Peter recommended, taking the time to make the changes on paper rather than later during construction.

It's nice to know there are still competent, "Old World" style craftsmen out there who care about quality work.  All of the sub-contractors were experienced, professional and it was a true pleasure to work with them.

The entire project more than exceeded our expectations and we could not have been happier with the final result.
